>that velocity is irrelevant
Guess what happens if you just go up without going sideways?

You come right the fuck back down. Like Virgin Galactic's amusement park ride. Without a velocity multiple orders of magnitude higher than Virgin Galactic can achieve, you cannot stay in space, you cannot reach orbit, you cannot deploy a useful payload, and you cannot dock with anything in space.

If all you want is a rollercoaster for rich boomers that spends five minutes near-but-not-in space, then sure, velocity is irrelevant. If you want to meaningfully participate in the space economy, that velocity is the only thing that matters.

Virgin Galactic cannot meaningfully participate in the space economy. Period. I'm sorry you're scared of physics and capital letters, but you're objectively fucking stupid.
