I think some people have a much higher genetic predisposition to drink alcohol. A neural network seems to resemble a tree, and the body may have adapted to using alcohol as a sort of self-pruning mechanism. It fascinates me that the human liver has adapted to human alcohol use for so long and has the ability to regenerate more so than other organs as well. Like anything else though, moderation is a good idea, and usually your body tells you when you've had enough of something, though many choose to ignore it.

I still feel like beer gives your liver more time to process alcohol due to the dilution as opposed to the load induced by drinking undiluted alcohol.
