I never really considered this a problem until recently, but anyone know what the legal situation is as far as hitting your employees when they make a mistake? I have all of them sign a waiver when they are hired saying that they understand that they are free to quit at any time if they don't want to get hit, and every time beforehand I warn them that they're about to get hit and wait for them to acknowledge it, so it's never really been a problem so far. The other day though my friend saw me beating on a new hire for screwing up a customer's order and he was just horrified, said I need to cut that out and I can get into major trouble for this. Is it true? I always assumed that as long as they gave their implicit consent that it was fine. Obviously they're always free to just quit if they don't like it, but can I still somehow get into legal trouble for this?
