For both groups but especially Boomers, they've got decades of experience screaming that you're full of shit. It makes some sense, things have always just worked and now you're saying this time is different? We've seen previous events where alarmists say the same things we're saying now and the alarmists have been wrong, or at least never right to any insurmountable extent. I'd like to be wrong almost as much as I want to be right, honestly; stuff's going to suck for a while before things get better.

Also, saving cash and letting the world do as it does is easy and requires no conscious thought, two aspects people love in everything.
