Not in California, because in California eviction cases are sealed unless the landlord wins (they always settle because legal fees are 10k or more for a fully contested eviction)

In California, avoid service for as long as you can, file a motion to quash, file a petition for a writ of mandate if denied, file a demurrer, file an answer with as many affirmative defenses as possible, then try to squeeze as many continuances out as possible in between doing discovery. Negotiate a leave and waive provision in your settlement agreement when you go to the mandatory settlement conference.

I have legal insurance from my employer, the State of California ($10 a month) which pays for a lawyer to do this for me. But you can do it on your own as well.
