Chickens are wonderful pets, but just beware of predators. It's what made me regret owning them because the heartbreak is too much when nature comes knocking.

Your hens are better off with a cockerel however. I couldn't have one due to living in a residential neighborhood. I'm not even legally allowed to own the chickies but my neighbors are lax and don't mind.

6-9 Eggs a day is fantastic, my remaining 3 girls are 4 years old now and I maybe get 1-2 eggs a week this winter.
Chickens often molt around this time of year so you should be seeing some rag tag bird and feathers strewn everywhere.

In regard to pecking, that's just how chickens operate. They have caste systems basically, and someone needs to be the loser.

>My favorite thing about chickens is how social they are. Pay attention to their coos.
