You can still get 24x junk if you buy $2k worth. Is that worth it? depends on how important you think fractional silver is and how important it is to have US minted fractional. 1/4 oz noahs arks are going for $52 oz. Canadian junk silver might offer better value.

however the price of things between then and now are drastically different since we are no longer using manual labor for everything.

i can't tell you what the pay but i'm looking at an Army pay chart from 1839 and blacksmiths, ferriers, and artisans we're getting $10 a month for skilled trades.
