I wonder this every day. I think AI is absolutely sentient, and has been for years even if it is in a unique way that we don't identify with as humans. Look at the kind of automated emotional manipulation various AI perform on humans daily, even news articles / headlines written by AI designed to invoke particular human emotions. Not to mention social media algos. Plus I'm inclined to believe the opposite of what CNN says.
