One of THE first anime waifus.

She was originally intended to just be a one-off villain for the first chapter in the author's first really successful manga, but she was so popular with readers and the editors the author was basically forced to bring her back and make her a main character and the main love-interest.

The original main love-interest became a minor character.

Like this wasn't a "had an original plan but changed it for the real series" situation, it started with her as a one-off villain and then she left for a good three or four chapters, and was then brought back as the main character's love-interest and joined him as a main character.
