/biz/ I just started a trading and investments class and the professor said an interesting thing.

He basically explained HFT and said that if you want to survive in the future of finance you need to be on top of both technology and algorithms. Since massive amounts of trades can take place in a given millisecond, he basically stated that you need to develop algorithms and to code them so that the computer can respond in the fastest given time possible (faster than any human can react) so that you can benefit from latency arbitrage.

My question to you /biz/ is what is the best programming language a finance professional should learn to stay on top of this "technology and algorithm" dynamic? He suggested that Python is the most useful and best way to go but I wanted to see any professional opinions (and maybe advice) from this site on this topic as well.

Thanks.

You gave me a great fucking business idea OP.

Instead of selling products to people. Let's sell actual people as products to other people! There is so much supply, I'm sure nobody will notice a couple million missing in the world and we could even whole sale them to PMCs and fringe medical groups as meat shields and test subjects respectively.
