>symptom of narcissism. 500 years ago you were born stupid and poor and worthless and you knew it was going to be that way until the day you died.
Right but here's the thing because of religion, they believed that they could get something after they died in the afterlife! Every single person 500 years ago believed they were a special person who was going to get rewarded in heaven (if they were good)!

500 years ago average person was fine with being poor, hungry, and worthless because they knew after they died they'd get rewarded for being a good goy.

With religion being in decline, the politicians/business leaders have to promise people something while the cattle are still alive. Now usually the people pulling the levers of power put it reasonably far into the future. A classic example of this is a pension when you're 65 years old and a comfortable retirement for being a good goy.

Of course the pensions are gonna fail probably through some financial gimmicks but they'll think of some way to placate the cattle. Besides what are a bunch of seniors gonna do when the pension funds go bust? Write a few letters to to their local senator?

>I don’t get why people who know how to program and code don’t just make their own app/program/website.
Planning on doing this myself. The issue is you need a team to really develop a product that clients are willing to pay money for.

Most of them are too busy working for a promotion to devote any time towards starting a business. I've tried to get a few co-workers involved in a project I'm working on, and they're not interested.

Additionally, a lot of times your contract will have IP clauses so if they prove you developed/started an invention while employed, it belongs to the company now. This is especially true if your invention/idea is in the same industry as your employer. My point is you really need to do your legal homework before you try to start your own business -- you might find that "your" business and all of its intellectual property belongs to your employer.
