I'm 27 y/o, have been a "software engineer" for 6 years, make $150k and don't do shit at this point. I have my own office where my desk is facing towards the door so nobody can see my screen. Spend almost all day reading manga, watching anime/youtube/etc, or shitposting on 4channel.org. Throughout the course of a typical day I probably do at most an hour of actual work.

I come from a poor Indiana family so no silver spoon, just put in enough work in school to get good grades. In the beginning straight out of college I had to prove myself, prove that I could take any problem thrown at me and write the code for it efficiently, so skills ARE needed to get to my point. Once you prove yourself, work on raising your "bus factor", make yourself so important to a particular piece of software/infrastructure that the company can't afford NOT to keep you and wouldn't dream of laying you off, and everyone at the company thinks you're some kind of computer god.

Meanwhile I know this won't last forever, I know the global macro cycle is close to its tipping point and a depression is coming. I've been living frugally and investing the extra ~$5k per month of disposable income into strategic stonks (don't fall for the index/ETF memes), precious metals, and crypto. Also saving up to make a down payment on a new real estate investment. Pretty much ready to retire anytime, but I'm a habitual overprepper so I have no problem continuing to wagekek while I wait for crypto to moon or hyperinflation to hit so PMs moon
