Because it's way more convenient to just tell yourself "If I have enough money then finally girls will like me!" than to actually put in the work to change the miserable human being you are.

I was broke years ago when I met my gf too OP. Now that I actually make money it feels fucking amazing to know that she got with me when I was making $8.25/hr and isn't just in it for the cash. They'll never have that. And a sad truth that the girl they got by making it financially is just a gold digger waiting for them to die will remain in the back of their head forever.
