gold's "value" is all smoke and mirrors. People pay for it just because it looks pretty. Silver is actually needed in the electronics industry, and would still be valuable when people stop caring about shiny things.
I'd rather invest in something actually useful like Rhenium than gold.

if you intend to actually resell the stuff at some point, get coins. They're much harder to fake than large bars, meaning people will be less hesitant to buy from no-name private sellers.

The bigger the bar, the easier it is to fake. I have some 10oz and 1kg, but I mostly stack in 1oz coins and junk silver. I think I have one 5oz or 7oz buffalo or something can't remember
