I have no idea what's wrong with some people.

I give them a concrete estimate dollar number like $500 by the second email.

It's usually a dozen emails later after doing tons of work for them that I will ask for something towards that estimate.

They then conveniently tell me that they are hard on money.

This is fraud, naturally. And it does induce real rage.

I love what I do but this is one of the few industries where people can pull this shit on you. You don't hire construction workers and let them work for a day to 'test' them without pay. You don't hire them to do $20,000 projects and then admit when the job is nearly done that you're broke.

And frankly I came to the realization that I deserve at least as much fucking respect as a construction worker. I have recently dropped projects the second I suspect a client of being a flake.

I have also told one client that a Mobile App I made for him is mine until he buys it from me. In other words, until he has paid the full estimate, it's not his App. It's mine.

Finding a backbone had taken me a long time but it has pretty much happened. I see these people for what they are now - which is a joke. Earlier in my life, I actually thought I needed them.
