have bro pulling just over 400k in NYC went to wharton for undergrand and no MBA. Is white and from middle class no connections bust hustled the living fuck out of hs to get into wharton.

I took it easy went to mid-tier state university and worked hard then went to medical school and worked hard and will now be entering a lucrative specialty also maiing just over 400k. We both 27 years old rn.

Differences. He has been making that kind of money for a few years and even starting out his first job was 6 digit salary. I continually went deeper into debt and continue to go deeper into debt and will only be making 65k for the next four years before getting my attending salary.

Just visited him in NYC since I will likely be going to residency there. Turns out he just quit his job last month to "live his life". Saying last 6 years have been a black hole of work >100hrs every week since finishing undergrad. I certainly pull those hours but have fun intervals in between the hell of med school (spent 2 years in Japan doing research etc., couple months in Spain doing research, etc etc.)

He has no debt whereas I have a ton of debt, but I will be able to work technically less hours than him as an attending and dictate my schedule more. In terms of pure money, finance always makes more sense. But in terms or overal life quality (job satisfaction, intellectual stimulation, variety etc etc) I thin medicine still triumphs. I get to work on AI and new medical advances and be on the cutting edge of society, he dreads his life because he confided it was nothing but moving numbers around for large index funds making other people infinteily more rich from the fruits of his labor.

Best part is I can use my meager income (after debts are paid) to begin to invest as I please without the SEC arresting me as is the case with many of my bros on wallstreet.
Bottom line, if you are smart and in USA or Canada, think about medicine. Similar hours and much more delayed gratification but worth
