I only found out I had it three months ago and discovering it's effects on my life has actually been kind of upsetting.
People like to talk all the time about how they forget things or will space out during a lecture but it's nothing compared to actually having it.
Before medication, I would literally spend 95% of class spaced out and I thought this was normal because everyone jokes about it to a degree. I had no clue that they were talking about maybe ten minutes of daydreaming, not an hour and a half of straight mental disappearance.
Or I can reach down into a drawer and forget what I'm doing as I'm opening the drawer.
ADHD also results in the delayed development of the prefrontal cortex, so my decision making skills are only 66% of what they should be at my age, as well as my maturity.
Anyone who tries to gaslight others into believing ADHD isn't real can suck my six incher. You guys are the worst.
