the money that the fed pumps can effect inflation, but we don't have to "pay it back", it's all on their balance sheet.

Right now, the fed+treasury actions have been "worth it" in terms of continuing the functioning of the economy. But to answer questions like that will take 5-10 years minimum, probably 20+

yeah they'll just do share buybacks instead of spending the money productively. If they increase wages that will just drive their share price down, so they won't do it unless they absolutely have to.
that's just the way things are right now :(
I would prefer anything to share buybacks. Dividends, increased Capex, etc. But they way the system is set up right now, companies (management, specifically) is incentivized to make as much money as possible, spend as little as possible, and boost their share price.
