check out bill mollison's global gardener videos. 4 little movies covering each climate + urban:

geoff lawton has a nice documentary called urban permaculture:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qXgbrIYcFE

also good, aussie focus but applies to all temperate climates with minimal effort:

livestock is another realm entirely and needs a lot of pasture per head. also special skills / dedicated spaces for slaughtering, smoking, etc. I'm personally trying to just have some ducks and go to a cattle farm for free/cheap organ meat like beef heart.

pic is the crabapple + wild beach rose guild last summer. a lot of this stuff is brand new so it's not impressive. also a deer ate my trees because I forgot to fence them off.

try hugelkultur built on big logs. the flood should soak the logs and help break them down, while the logs themselves will give plenty of structure. estimated lifetime of a hugel bed is 5-6 years, then you get delicious humus to fertilize other beds. pic incoming of a mini hugel herb spiral (we live in a tiny place, FL is really big)
