You know the meme saying "correlation does not equal causation".
well sometimes it does.
When you are looking at a Link/USD chart, you are looking at BTC/USD + Link/BTC.

So if you want to know how any alt-coin (cryptocurrencies excluding bitcoin) is performing, you measure them against Bitcoin.

..and you are right, USD is what matters, its just a useless metric when looking at charts.
