The short answer is that commercial fishing is terrible, and we need to radically change the way we consume fish from start to finish. There are a lot of better options in terms of edible fish species, but because the average consumer isn't familiar with anything that isn't halibut tuna or salmon, a lot of these more sustainable choices go untapped.

I could wax poetic for hours about how food is about safety and familiarity as much as simple nourishment, but the point is that as long as the average consumer remains uninformed, commerical fishing will remain destructive, and even more compelling for us savvy capitalists, resource inefficient.
