For any pewterchads lurking, beware of skimming or stirring the pot with anything that isn't iron/steel. I foolishly grabbed and used this old silver plated copper-nickel spoon and the molten pewter started dissolving it. I know pewter is an alloy that contains copper but didn't expect it to do this it at just 500 Fahrenheit. The scraggly bit on the end was the original outline, shit got ate up.
