Actually being "self-made" in the truest sense of the word of coming from literally nothing and rising to the top is extremely fucking rare. Most people of note were born to wealthy families, relied on some kind of a government program, had some political connections won through nepotism or sheer luck, received money from their parents to invest into a business, etc. And even with all of that most people also got stupidly lucky at some point, whether it be discovering an invention by complete accident, having good looks (i.e. nice genetics) or just happening to meet the right person at the right time.
