They've been going down in the US (except Califagnia) for the better part of a decade thanks to shale farting out more natural gas than the US can use, as a waste product. Pic very much related; shale fields produce so much nat gas that they have to flare the excess.

Natural gas in the US is a waste product. Pic related: it's a massive series of gas flares from the Bakken shale fields. The US can't keep up with the supply, so we just burn it at the source. Bakken alone will keep producing for another 60 years, too.

As to how this relates to Nord Stream? Well, the US has gone from a massive energy deficit to a massive energy surplus. Staggeringly massive, in fact. Where the US once employed its political and military apparatuses to ensure stability of the energy supply (so the US could access it), the US now and in the future will employ said apparatuses to ensure disruption (because the US no longer needs access.)
