That's normal for China. It's very progressive and modern. They enforce the zero COVID policy to achieve desired results, unlike the chaotic west. Surely you've seen Chinese official state media's reports that COVID was a bioweapon created by the US Army and released upon China in an act of western imperialism.

China routinely leaves massive piles of trash in the streets, which has many benefits such as creating jobs for trash collectors and saving time so people can get back to work. Weak westerners panic at the sight, but the loyal and hardened Chinese just go back to work, or to jail, or flee and become fugitives banned from society by the social credit system. Liberal leaders like Canada's Trudeau envy China's system, which enables it to protect the environment by becoming the world's largest polluter and simply faking the reported numbers, but they are unable to make progress because democracy and reactionary bigots keep getting in the way.

You'll be happy to know that the Party showed its support for Dear Leader Xi Jinping at this year's congress, where potential rivals eagerly gave up their positions and responsibilities so Xi's loyalists could take over - including the man who oversaw the Shanghai COVID lockdowns, who was promoted to the second highest post. Now that Hong Kong has been pacified, Xi promises to restore order to Taiwan.

You'll also be happy to know that foreigners are not permitted to have actual ownership of Chinese stocks, and must go through Chinese intermediaries, ensuring that foreigners will be able to helpfully donate their funds to the government should that ever become necessary.

This is all normal.

You're months behind. They've been pricing this in since the April selloff.
