>Portfolio Distribution

The largest positions in your portfolio should be the ones you have the most confidence in
or the ones you think are most likely to be successful.
I usually open a new position with a 4%-5% buy. If it is performing as expected and I am confident it will continue to perform then you can add to it.

Usually I increase the position by ~2%. For smaller portfolios, concentrate your capital in 3 to 5 names that you know very well or
are the most confident in.

For example, don’t have 20 stocks or even 15 stocks in a portfolio of $50,000 or less. In that case you are better off with GDXJ.

>Speculative/Risky Jr's

Most of the time, this means nano-caps and micro-caps. I typically make these positions
anywhere from 2.5%-3.5% of the portfolio.

They have outsized potential and can impact the portfolio even as a smaller position. The small position size also limits risk to the overall
portfolio in absolute terms as well as in liquidity terms. These companies are more illiquid and
have great day to day volatility.

>Momentum Investing

For the most part (not always) you should only add to winning positions.

Rarely, if ever should you add to losing positions (that were full positions to begin with). When a position performs well and the outlook continues to look strong, consider adding to that position.

In regard to certain momentum plays, it is best to layer into positions with multiple buys. In
other words, if there is some risk of a 20% drop but there’s also risk the stock could continue to
rise, its best to start small.

>Don’t buy a 5%-6% right away.

Start with 2%-3%. That way if it corrects, you could add to it at a lower price. If it keeps rising, you have a position and you’ve made a profit.

It is okay to add to a 3-4% position if there is a better buying opportunity at a lower price.
You want to avoid “doubling down.” If you have a 5-6% position that is already down 10%-15%,
do not add to it.
