All cryptocurrencies have the exact same problem: they aren’t backed by anything.

At one point they were backed by precious metals, but for the most part they’re now a reflection of the trustworthiness or reputation of the country that issues them. The United States is generally considered very trustworthy, so we’re considered the de facto international currency.

As a result, until such time as Bitcoin, dogecoin, potcoin, and all the other -coins band together and buy an aircraft carrier or a shitton of gold, they’re just libertarian wank material.
