I started my high school math teaching internship this morning (south hemisphere has inverted seasons).

I had science seniors 2h who were mostly studious and calm, although I choked when I saw things like writing sqrt(-4) = 2 on the whiteboard, or another one writing 1/A in her notebook for a complex geometry exercise even though A is a point wtf.

Then I had lit/econ juniors 2h who were nice kids but literally kindergarten tier maturity. Had to write their names in a corner of the whiteboard with crosses = extra homework to keep them behaving, and even then had to quiet the class half a dozen times. It's kind of cute when you can tell she learned her lesson (derivatives), applies it to the exercise, and then fails spectacularly because her brain physically cannot process how minus signs work.

Old math teachers are super helpful and enthusiastic (so far...) and there's a free coffee machine at the back of the teacher room I'm told but I haven't had time to check it out. It's my first day so I can't really say much more for now. If you're considering it maybe try an internship ? Your uni might have deals with local high schools.

Also protip: don't do this if you have an underage fetish, high school girls revel in being promiscuous and looking as slutty as they can get away with.
