Realize that the mentor / mentored relationship is a trade, not a gift. The mentor has to get something out of it too for them to actually try and improve the skill of the mentored. When seeking out a mentor, it's actually good if they have a little bit of an ego. Watching you be shitty at something that they're good at will boost their ego, that's your part of the deal. In exchange they will actually try and help you.
