Let me explain. I saw Martin Shkreli hand out five figures to people who just asked him. I can't think of any other rich guy I've seen do that other than him.
If he had given that money to some bullshit charity that claims to help the poor but really just pockets it, distinguished citizens would have written letters on his behalf. He would have been called a good man. That's what worked for Michael Milken, who was regarded as the "evil Wall Street bro" of the '80s, got out of jail quickly and is almost totally rehabilitated.
Who did Shkreli have in his corner? Just had some autists who blew it on vaping and dakimakuras.
So the first thing you should do with a billion dollars is give 10% of it away to "acceptable" charities as a form of protection money so maybe you might be able to keep the rest.
