Had a similar experience with an engine block cracking at 66k miles when the manufacturer warrenty expired at 60k miles. I should have just driven that fucking thing into a lake and claimed I feel asleep for the insurance money. However, I now only buy vehicles from the 80s or 90s, I personally have one from each decade. Even a smooth brain like myself can work on those, I've been astounded at the things I've fixed on them that would be impossible to DIY with anything modern. Two shitbox trucks is the winning solution. Best case they are both working and you get to feel high class "hmm what truck shall I take today?" Worst case one is broken so you use the other whilst fixing it the broken one. Highly recommended. Pic unrelated.
