Lehman Brothers was the 4th largest bank in the US when it went bust. The government didn't take it seriously fast enough and underestimated the fallout from something like that.

The government is taking this seriously, and is not willing to let one of the Big 4 megabanks implode anymore. This is a completely different beast. If you want to understand what it means for an economy to come to a full stop and then try to resume again, listen to Mohammed El-Erian talk about his work in emerging market economies where things like that happen.

If you want to just complain because you're trying to time the market and think it should fall in a straight line, then just keep doing what you're doing and don't bother reading or learning.
