It's not though, the market has been in a bubble for the past 6-7 years. Games like Suikoden are cool, but they are only sort after by a small percentage of the general gamer demographic. If you want to make money in the future off vidya game stuff you should be buying up actual rare shit that has a large consumer demographic (see pic related)

I've been flipping games for about 8 years now, and have probably had around 5000 games pass through my hands.
Some Vita games, and collectors versions of mainstream Nintendo games are probably the only physical games of the past 10 years that will either hold or appreciate in value.
I do however suspect that 90% of all physical video games will lose value over the next 10 years. Next gen gamers won't give a shit about sapphire for the pc-engine, and current collectors will get bored of the hobby when it becomes uncool and will sell off at lower and lower prices. I do however think that hardware may appreciate in value. Obscure variants of consoles, or in general obscure consoles, will always be appealing to kids who are interested in computers and computer hardware, and as the push for learning how to code and also in general the rise of computers within most peoples lives rises, i think demand for essentially aesthetically pleasing little computers and components of the past may go up. Owning a new in box Jungle Green N64, or a new in box IQUE N64 might be like owning a painting from a semi famous artist. I'm not talking 100,000,000's of millions of dollars of course, but $50000 for a new in box Pokemon Center GBA might become a reality.
I wouldn't worry too much about disc rot, most people that are into collecting don't even play their games, they just emulate them (another reason why games will go down in price)
