Get a calliper, a smooth neodymium magnet and a scale with at least 0.1g fine measurement. Literally all you need to tell if silver coins are real.
Depending on your local prices, stacking 1oz bullion coins in bulk might be better bang for your buck than large bars, even if you can spend thousands at a time. Coins are also far more liquid, divisible, easy to test and less hassle when selling (large bars will often have to get drill tested).
Calculate which product is the best in terms of $ spent per oz and take into account the resale price per oz as well - some storefronts show both sell price and buyback price. Generally you'll only get melt value when reselling bars, while coins always get you some premium on top.
Before making a purchase, always google the name of what you're buying just in case there's another dealer that sells it cheaper (learned this the hard way)
