Floridian here - in the same boat. I graduated in 2021 and I am completely priced out of Tampa.

When I graduated my girlfriend and I moved to chicago (she is from the suburbs) - this is probably the only city left in the country where you can live comfortably as a young professional.
>rents are now due to high density/old housing stock
>ample public transit; I left my car back in florida and either walk/bus/train everywhere
>tons of stuff to do - there are bars/restaurants on every block
>wages are high - for reference Im junior SWE making 85k and she's a teacher making 61k
>homes are still affordable
in the suburbs you can get a full 3/2 house for under 350k and in the city - in a neighborhood that's 70-80% white and SAFE, even in a nice neighborhood, you can get a 2 bedroom condo for under 300k.

For rent you can expect 800-1700 on a 1 bedroom in a good neighborhood. On a decent salary - say 65k - it's very affordable. I'd recommend if you're also my age.
