>You don't have to do anything. The old chain either disappears or gains enough community to upkeep it. If the fork stays alive your Ethereum balances get copied to this second chain. This ETHW is not same as ETH and it will have very different value, if any at all. This depends on if it gets listed on an exchange and there are speculators buying it. One thing is sure that there are a LOT of sellers ready to get rid of their ETHW for any little money. All stablecoins and tokens will be worth zero on the new chain. All DeFi liquidity pools will be worthless and drainable for free ETHW. There's work to be done on infra like block explorers and metamask RPCs. Without this normal users won't be able to do transactions. One thing to consider is the possibility of replay attacks if the new chain doesn't change its chainID. Moving funds on the new chain could be dangerous if there's no replay attack protection so keep an eye on this if you want to interact with the chain (if it happens). It will very likely be dead on arrival because it's just a miners' attempt on making their last profits before the inevitable death of GPU mining.
what this anon said. right now, assuming the merge even happens, nobody knows for sure that it will succeed.
the ethereum foundation is betting 10's of billions on it working, there is no way back.

its better than even money bet that miners will sure as shit keep mining at least for weeks/months while shit sorts out. ethpow may indeed become a thing indefinitely just as eth classic is still out there even though there is zero development and zero adoption.
