pay now. I mean you will cry about missed out profits, but .... well if things tank you won't either be able to sell (and keep losses small) because you need the money or sell on every small dip because you're afraid of things tanking (and thereby create large cumulative loss)

just pay everything and start anew. I know it sucks, but well ... you know ... at least you'll be able to start anew.

price drops to $8
average loss is $2 per share

buy 1000 shares at $8
average price is now $9
average loss is $1 per share

mathematically it is meaningless to buy shares just to lower your average, but apparently there is the temptation to do it, I am guessing because you can't buy large amounts of stock all at once and end up buying at different prices so they take the average price and get accustomed to looking at averages and end up thinking in terms of the average when really they ought to take into account fluctuating prices to a reasonable degree
