easy check is to test its sound

all phisical gold has an ID telling about its certificate, about when it was made, about it's purity etc

you can already trade certificated phisical gold without carrying it, you just transfer it's property rights and the gold doesn't get out the vault it's in
while the new owner has acces to claim it from the vault at any time (paying costs ofc)
