The split actually did accomplish something, and it's a MASSIVE cascading effect.
A stock that trades 4 times as much post split yet has 3 times less volume as compared to its pre split isn't something to ignore.
Markets have already lost control of maintaining their short volatility, and because the markets haven't crashed yet (it's slow bleeding thanks to the feds) they're also losing their ability to hold their long volatility. We're already seeing destabilization and market wide asymmetric risk. When primes derisk the market, most margin is lent to the short side, so they margin calls shorts. And then shorts have to start buying which drives the price up.

This very thing happened back in January, except now instead of the markets rising against the shorts, the shorts are just extremely over leveraged against the market and its stocks. And with GME liquidity drying up, the stock has become more destabilized, and they can barely maintain their positions.

We LITERALLY saw them pull a liquidity grab by way of options fuckery a week and a half ago.
Their massive short positions need to be constantly tied up and rotated around FTD, with them constantly trying to clear out their old obligations and replacing them with new ones, and with each cycle it becomes harder to survive the next one.
And no matter how much you bitch and moan and piss and shit your pants about this stock, it won't matter, because statistically, no one is selling, and the longer this drags on the more absurdly fucked they become.
