At 24, my father had:
>finished combat deployments via marine corps infantry
>got an EE degree from a top 5 engineering school as valedictorian
>had 2 kids
>bought a 5/3 2800 sq ft house outright
>bought a second rental property for more income
>making $80k/yr at IBM (bear in mind this is early 2000s when the money was seriously good)
>10+ high quality friends with weekly barbeques and fun events
Me at 24:
>live with my biological mom
>make $32k/yr doing hard labor
>pay $900/mo of rent on top of other bills and medical expenses, save about $200/mo
>last time I had a girlfriend was several years ago, before I started working 50+ hours a week
>1 friend who is a fat loser who spends 10+ hours a day on League of Legends NEEting at home
I cannot imagine having even 1/4 of what he had by the time I die. It is mostly my own fault for not being as hyper competent as him, but still here I am with my whiskey and my shotgun. I put it in my mouth and weep, teasing the trigger. It's like a game. If i'm too drunk one night, maybe I will accidentally actually pull the trigger. For now though i am just resting my finger on it. Life is bleak. /blog
