If I started an auction to get my ENS and someone bids higher than me does that mean whoever bids higher gets the name even if i started the auction? Lets say I started an auction and I bid 2 ether for ens and someone bids 5 ether and that person won. Do I get back my 2 ether and 5 ether? Guys, this will happen:

With the launch of ENS (Ethereum Name Service) people can bid anonymous on addresses like ethereum.eth and can get their bid back(minus 0.01% gas fees) after a year. There are NO FEES AT ALL despite the gas that is needed to transfer the ethereum (cents, if even).


this allows for huge price manipulation, as in pricing strategic domains high as fuck and getting a huge share of the ether supply from people that actually wanted the domain locked for a whole year. Decreased ETH supply means a higher price for the same demand.

Even if you manage to be the highest bidder and get the address, you would only pay the price of the second highest bet, you get the rest back immediatly after the auction and can then also sell the address further for even more ether than you put in.


Organisations like the ethereumfoundation, myetherwallet, coinbase, poloniex, kraken etc. All want their .eth addresses. These are of strategic value and FOOLPROOF, as they will buy it from you if you have the address.
