>Is organized crime really that bad there?
It is. And 99.99% of people will never feel that.
IMO expats are also safe because the mafia doesn't want foreign embassies after them. I've never heard of an expat getting in trouble EVER.
But if you're a local, and you made it in crypto...

Then again, petty crime is at almost 0. People don't get randomly stabbed like they do in the UK, for example. Robberies are also rare, especially compared to shitholes like Berlin. Again, if you're not at $1m net worth yet, Bulgaria and Romania are the absolute best countries in the world to get there.

Believe it or not, I know people who were responsible for detaining a Serbian mafia boss (Sreten Yosic) in Bulgaria about 15 years ago. One of the most wanted figures in the world back then.
When in custody, he asked what the national debt in Bulgaria was. When he heard it's around 10 billion he offered to pay it off (either to the country or to the correct people) if they make a "mistake" and let him run.
My friends and the rest of the police had none of this and extradited him to the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands, the people responsible for detaining him made a mistake and he escaped.
