idk man the Old Testament is pretty heavy on the genocide and vengeance and smiting. YHWH is a jealous, bloodthirsty god. my own (probably heretical) take on this is that the old testament god is actually a local desert god who managed to take root and has influenced a lot of the not-so-great parts of human history,

whereas the God of the new testament, Jesus' Dad, the Universal Creator and source of all Life, infinite light and love, does not smite any people or demand wholesale slaughter, as is so common in the Old Testament.

Comparing the management styles of these two deities, I have come to the conclusion that they are two different guys entirely. This, incidentally, aligns with the belief system of (some) Gnostic sects, who held that Earth was under the control of a crazed breakaway entity called the Demiurge, who had turned away from Big Daddy Light, the creator (and the female deity and source of all wisdom, Sophia).

However, the gnostics and all their spiritual descendants, notably the Bogomils, Cathars and Waldensians, got terminated with extreme prejudice by the Roman church (who favor a move vengeful, jealous god), presumably because their comparatively more chill religion was cutting into their profits from indulgences and taxes and whatnot.
