It's not just 3% yield, you're also getting a reliable ~5% annual dividend growth. And XOM is able to operate profitably even if oil prices shit the bed from demand destruction and oversupply. It's an incredibly safe investment for the returns - contrast tech which is extremely volatile and (unless this time is different) doesn't go up forever
