There’s some good info in this link about how solutions will be able to scale on top of the bitcoin blockchain as a trust layer and make a bunch of novel use cases possible.

It’s something that has been talked about for a while now, but hadn’t been implemented yet because it wasn’t possible until now. Like the holy grail of decentralization because of bitcoin’s hash power and how decentralized it is.
