Generic bullion will only ever be sold for spot or less, maples will usually hold a small premium. Nothing wrong with generic bullion, though; especially when youre stacking for value.
Personally, i do not like the generic bank bullion. My entire silver stack is RCM and Royal Mint, which makes me feel that much more comfy.

My dealer has several ways to verify the authenticity of the PMs in a piece of metal, using several machines. General consensus is that theyre trustworthy machines.
Im about as skeptical as you, so this is what it took for me to trust buying PMs from someone, that is not a bank.
