Hindsight is 20/20, but you could have bought a used BMW Z8 in 2001 for $65k - $85k, which now, almost 20 years later, would be worth >$200k.

My own BMW E46 is 23 years old and was a surprisingly good buy. Bought it for 12k, now, 15 years later, still worth around 4k - 5k. Very high maintenance though. After all it cost me $200 per month all in.
