Going to start getting into ETFs but I don't really understand how it works in terms of actually doing it online.

Half my money is in one country (home country) and half of it is in another (country of residence). If I buy stocks with my currency from both countries, do I get taxed twice? Am I only taxed on sales? Ideally I think I'd like to buy stocks with the money I make in my country of residence but sell them into my home country's bank account. Is that possible? I just don't want to get taxed twice.
