Further on the same note,
I've found that spamming bull put spreads on the VIX offer a decent hedge if you're contained by capital. If you have the scratch to sell a put on the VIX this is also viable if you play with the strikes and dates correctly and have a good plan to dump it once in profit to your target.
Point is, market normally goes up yes, but do some basic hedging when it doesn't.
