Live? The key here is to know the right people so you can get into very soft private games. And of course you have to be good at poker (but nothing compared to how good you have to be online).
Online? VERY hard. Your time would most likely be better spent elsewhere. Online poker is dying and and the people at the top (the ones making $150k+/ year) are extremely good and (for the most part) have been studying/ playing full time for years. It's by no means easy money. Even just beating small stakes for a decent winrate takes a lot of work.
If you're smart and hard-working enough to make it to high stakes nowadays (with little no/ experience as a pro) then you could probably make more money if you dedicated your time to studying, programming, trading etc.

The freedom is great but there's also a lot of stress (variance, having to play during weird hours if really good games are running etc.) and it's a pretty lonely job.

t. have made 7 figures playing online poker. I will most likely quit poker within 1-2 years because games are dying out and I'm moving on to new things.
